Description
Summary:碩士 === 開南大學 === 觀光運輸學院碩士在職專班 === 104 === Folk religion often manifests itself through various rituals or patterns in people's lives, among which, the “Pilgrimage Procession” presents itself as a way to entertain both deities and humans, during the farmers’ leisure time in Taiwan. This research centers on the 100 year old event on the birthday of Guan Sheng Di Jun(“ Saintly Emperor Guan”), organized by the Pu-Ji Temple in Da-Xi, New Taipei City, Taiwan, recently designated as one of Taiwan’s cultural heritages in accordance with 《Cultural Heritage Preservation Act》articles on folklores and cultural relics of intangible cultural heritages. Concerning preservation and practice of intangible cultural heritages, this research ponders on the ways to revive and pass the heritage to next generations, and preserve the cultural values of the region, while keeping the historical context. This research attempts firstly to concentrate on the ways to preserve the Pilgrimage Procession of Guan Sheng Di Jun’s Birthday, Pu-Ji Temple, Da-Xi, in its entirety, and ways to make it sustainable through time. Then, the characteristics of belief in Guan Sheng Di Jun will be presented in the context of Da-Xi’s regional development and belief in Guan Sheng Di Jun of Taiwan in general. It’s noted that the said Pilgrimage Procession, started from the Taisho period of Japanese occupation until now, through its various activities organized by local civic bodies every year, has successfully united people of different backgrounds of the region, and had the belief of Guan Sheng Di Jun deeply rooted in the hearts of local people, hence transformed into indigenous life experience of the people, and the bridge between the Pu-Ji Temple and Da-Xi locals. IV With the passage of time, generational transition, aging population and people’s outward migration, the importance to preserve and revive the said intangible cultural heritage is strongly emphasized. The ways to create economic benefits and regain attention of local people on Pilgrimage Procession of Guan Sheng Di Jun’s Birthday, Pu-Ji Temple, Da-Xi, are also explored. It’s hoped that, along with current regulation and documentation, combining community building and cultural and creative industries development, the goal to preserve and revitalize the Pilgrimage Procession of Guan Sheng Di Jun’s Birthday, Pu-Ji Temple, Da-Xi, can be reached. Last but not the least, Tao-Yuan City government is strongly urged to devote more manpower, financial resources and assistance into the said event, in order to generate more appreciation and participation in this unique event and the process of regional revitalization from Taiwan people, with more media reportage and publicity effects.
