The purpose of Hospice and Palliative Care aims to support and improve quality of life for those in the last stages of living, and their families. Includes the individual and his or her family in planning treatment and care, to enable them to make choices based on knowledge and understanding. The aim of this study is to understand the behavioral intention and relative factors of the family members’ opinion of remove the respirator to his or her long-term respirator-dependent family. This study is a descriptive, correlation study, the adoption of the transversal survey. The total of 99 families with long-term respirator-dependent patients were selected from the 6 hospitals in the middle Taiwan. The data were collected from structural questionnaires and open-ended questionnaires. The questionnaire of the research tools included the characteristics of the patient, family property, behavioral intention and so on. After the data were collected, the descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to analyze the behavioral intention and relative factors of the family members’ opinions of remove the respirator to his or her terminal stage family. The results of this study show: 1. The sex, marital status of family members and whether live or not to live with the patient the removal of respirator are significantly relevant. The tendency of agree hospice obviously noted in female and married families and the families who live with the patient. The families of Long-term respirator-dependent patient were significantly associated with behavior intention, attitude, subjective norms and perceptual behavior control of the disease at the terminal stage of the disease. Indicating the more positive thinking , subjective and perceptual behavior of the subjects are significant correlations between controlling the three independent variables and whether or not to remove the viable behavioral care groups. These three variables can effectively predict the intention of family members to withdraw life supports from prolonged mechanical ventilation-dependent patients.
