Police officers of the brigade usually contact with people most frequently, who do the harbor police authority and operations, therefore the success of the harbor police is based on the policemen of the brigade; the brigade captain’s managements effect the team to reach the mission and deeds, and what is more, policemen adjust mode to enforce laws. Because of limited powers and functions, complicated transaction, and stress, the brigade captain should choose a suitable type of leadership, in fact, the most important issue. The study is based on brigade captains and policemen in Kaohsiung Harbor Police Department. According to the documents of Leadership Styles, Patriarchal Leadership, and Job Characteristics in Kaohsiung Harbor Police Department, the Brigade Captain Leadership Styles are classified as benevolent leadership, Virtuous Leadership, and authoritarian leadership. To summarize and analyze the content by in-depth interview, we search out the connection with above-mentioned leaderships. This study is based on the brigade captain’s leadership style in Kaohsiung Harbor Police Department, finding the suitable police leadership style should contain diversity and empathy. The brigade captain should condone members who committed an error in handling the business; on the other hand, in the event that the cases involve in discipline problems, causing damage to reputation or significant mission, the brigade captain need to choose a harsh leadership style to manage. The brigade captain cannot be bureaucratic and authoritarian to lead new generations of police staff, listening to the staff’s different options and trusting in each other, to bring the operations into full play, to be more precisely, it highlights the effectiveness of the police organization. This study also found that the policemen will expect the leadership behavior from the captain as "pay attention to the work ethic," "professional capacities", "listen to the others’ opinions" and "trust", -4 factors.
