The study has explored the perspectives and experiences of primary caregivers of persons with intellectual disability, who have participated in an independent living project, in order to build up the main argument of the research.
Thus, the study has employed qualitative research in term of semi- structured in-depth interview, by inviting eight main caregivers and talking to them on purpose. The collected qualitative data has been faithfully transcribed into written words, systematically categorized into different relevant themes and authentically interpreted so as to construct the findings.
The study has demonstrated that the common confirmation from main caregivers have shown that "having a stable job and steady income have become the most important issue for those with intellectual disability, participating in the independent living project". The mental mood of these main caregivers about the independent living project has changed from anxiety in the beginning to relief at the end. Furthermore, these main caregivers also have raised up what needs those with intellectual disability should be met, while participating in the independent living project, and revealed what impacts have fallen upon those people. Finally, some recommendations concluded from the study have been suggested in order to hope the welfare of those with intellectual disability and their main caregivers could be improved in the level of social policies, social services and some social researches in the future.
