碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 宗教學系碩士在職專班 === 104 === I am a pastoral care worker for the elderly on Long Term Care at Taipei City Zhishan Senior Home. My job includes taking care of elderly residents, staff and personnel at the Center and family members of the residents. This research is geared towards taking care of the spiritual needs of elderly residents who are at the last phase of their life. The researcher follows the Schweitzer Christian Mission Foundation, spiritual career’s training, advocating three stages and five ways. The first stage is to finding the spiritual issue according to five dimensions: the meaning of life and value of elderly residents, the experience of love and being loved, hope in life, experience of forgiving, and being forgiven, and one’s relationship with the Divine whom the person believes and worship. The second stage is to find out the roots of the spiritual issues. The third stage is to recovering the spiritual peace. The purpose of this research is to come up with a Spiritual Care Model that can enhance the spiritual life of the elderly people. This research is based on, listening to the stories of the residents chosen for the research. A narrative life review process is used as the researcher listens to their stories. This research attempt to answer the following questions: what is spiritual care? How to engage in spiritual care? How to induce positive spiritual care in the life of the elderly and how to respect different religious beliefs and practices in the lives of the elderly. The study revealed that changing one’s heart will lead to a change in the thinking process of the elderly, which also brings change in one’s behavior. Believing in a God or the Divine is very important for the elderly and a positive attitude towards the body and soul is also very helpful. Caring and joyful staff members at the Center also contribute to the spiritual satisfaction of the elderly residents. As the elderly residents and staff of the Center interact daily with each other, their positive influence bring joy, happiness and spiritual satisfaction in the lives of the residents!
