The emphasis on sports and growing health awareness among people in modern times has further contributed to the prosperity of the sports industry. The “White Paper on Leisure” published in Japan also estimated the size of the sports industry to be as high as 5 trillion yen. Professional sports, in particular, are considered as leaders in the sports industry. Many countries and local governments also use the business of professional sports to drive the economic development on the country or local level. Hence, how to successfully manage professional sports teams is a very important topic. Compared with the professional baseball industry in Taiwan, the professional baseball industry in Japan is more established. As both Taiwan and Japan are situated in Asia, their operational models of professional baseball teams are also quite similar. We believe that professional baseball teams in Taiwan can use the Japanese model as a reference for further development. This study focuses on the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, who remain the leaders with the most fans in the Pacific League. This literature review reveals that the club management of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks emphasizes upon three pillars: “territorialization,” “innovative marketing,” and “advantages of the parent enterprise.” In order to have a first-hand experience of the management culture of the club and to understand the fans’ opinions regarding the same, we paid a special visit to the Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome and watched a live game. We also conducted in-depth interviews with the fans who confirmed the above conclusions regarding the aforementioned pillars. We hope this study on the management culture of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks can provide a reference for the future development of professional baseball teams in Taiwan and Japan.
