Bus is the main public transportation in Taichung city. The government spares no effort to propose many policies which can increase people’s desire for take bus. How do government improve the traffic volume of bus is an important issue. The routes network is most concerned by People. Taichung city bus charge toll with electronic ticket. There are complete and huge transaction records, it are important traffic sources and can replace a lot of investigations. Except ticket source, Taichung city’s bus shapefiles are also be an open source provide public reference and research. Combine two sources and systematically process data with program. When the data source update, get the new result. Overlay data and map with Geographic Information System. More understand the bus route and trips situation by graphical way. Expect obtain the clue of bus route improve and apply in the present and future. Visual Basic programming is combined with the SQL database query language in this study to collect the data from electronic ticketing system in Taichung city. Then, the open source geographic information system software QGIS was utilized to transform the projection coordinates of the bus routes, bus stops, and background street map layers to the same coordinate system, and to integrate and join trip volume and bus stop data to construct the hot spot diagram of the bus trips. The K-Means algorithm of MatLab software was used to divide the bus stops into the new cluster, and a MatLab program was written to give new cluster codes for the origin and destination of each bus trip. Finally, QGIS and Arc-GIS were utilized to display the characteristics of each trip origin, trip destination, and trip distribution of each OD pair. With the stops clusters in this research, can get trip demand and trip distribution. Program can process two data source quickly. The way of increase bus shuttle numbers of the shortest route as a suggestion. By analyzing the public transportation demand characteristics, reference of bus route planning can be established and adjustments can be made accordingly by the authorities.
