This study applies a simple additive weighting method and analysis of the VIKOR method, a popular method in multiple criteria analysis, to assess the stability of the water supply systems of the main basins in Taiwan. This study discusses eight criteria in the supply phase, demand phase and the environmental changes phase. The criteria are precipitation ratio, area percentage of landslides, water treatment performance, population density, daily water use per person, changes in natural environment probability, water treatment performance probability, and rate of change in the population. The results show that in the supply phase, no matter whether the simple additive weighting method or analysis of the VIKOR method are used, the stability of the water supply system of the Tamsui River Basin is higher than those of the other basins in Taiwan. In the demand phase and environmental changes phase, no matter whether the simple additive weighting method or analysis of the VIKOR method are used, the stability of the water supply system of the Choshui River Basin is higher than those of the other basins in Taiwan.
