Through the trend towards digital design, this situation has become a reality for both traditional geometry and freeform architecture in design process. The tendency is not only to change the form of buildings, but also to promote the function of construction. Owing to the progress in materials and technology, facades are no longer necessarily fixed. Adaptable facades can respond to the need for more comfortable interior environments when the climate changes, allowing more form change. Most previous researches focus on setting parameters for making form changes and presenting formal analyses of adaptable facades. Only a few studies emphasize the inductive integration and structural analysis of adaptable facade skins. This research is an analysis of adaptable facades by using shape grammar composition skills and the structure of building facades. Shape grammar is the methodology of form computation by design grammarians, using parameterization to analyze building facades. This study emphasizes the form structure of adaptable facades, and summarizes the types of adaptable facade composition and three-dimensional grammar. The focus of this research is on adaptable facades of buildings, and our study progress can be divided into four stages as follows: In the first stage, we gather the relevant literature and examples of adaptable buildings. Twenty- one examples are chosen as our research objects. In the second stage, we study five cases to make the category structure of building facades, build up the whole structure in parts by way of summarized tree diagrams, and analyze facade composition by shape grammars. In the thirth stage, we will conclude the result to the elements of the adaptable buildings for category structure, and describe the process of the form change by digital software Grasshopper. In the final stage, we used adaptable modules to build units which made by Grasshopper. With the adaptable modules, we can experiment their shading effect in practice. This study could provide logical rules for the development of comprehensive systems for the composition of adaptable facades on buildings. Moreover, this research shows the possibilities of designing adaptable facades for buildings. 宋玉真 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 162 zh-TW
