Subjects are the students from the sixth grade from elementary school in Taichung city. 117 valid questionnaires are retrieved and collected. The researcher applies descriptive statistics, chi-square test, test of homogeneity proportions, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation to achieve the goal of study. Regarding subjects’ responses to the questionnaire, the conclusions implied by statistical results are stated as follows: Most students from the sixth grade, their parents still apply either “authoritative” or “rejecting-neglecting” parenting styles on their children. Their motivation of learning on both Chinese and Math courses are at the medium-high level. The motivation of learning of Chinese and Math for students educated under the “authoritative” parenting style are significantly higher than those educated under the “rejecting-neglecting” parenting style. A significant positive correlation exists between subjects’ motivation of learning and academic achievement. The students from the sixth grade with high motivation of learning have academic achievements which are significantly higher than subjects with either medium or low motivation of learning. Based on the results of analyzed data, the researcher is able to propose related advice shown as below: Parents are advised to apply the “authoritative” parenting style in order to make their children’s motivation of learning better. In terms of school education, teachers are suggested to apply various methodologies and effective rewarding systems to enhance students’ motivation of learning in order to achieve higher academic performances.
