Abstract
Music closely relates to people’s lives. Music activities can stimulate abilities in different aspects of human life, and in the coming days continue playing with such influence.
This study mainly focused on the development of a severe child with multiple disabilities and the enhancement in emotional stability and communication skills during the Improvisation Music Educational Therapy sessions.
The purposes of this study included:
1. To understand the progress in emotional stability of the participant with severe multiple disabilities during the Improvisation Music Educational Therapy sessions.
2. To understand the progress in communication skills of the participant with severe multiple disabilities during the Improvisation Music Educational Therapy sessions.
This was a case study. The main methodology concluded a qualitative study and quantitative data was used to receive objective support.
The study adopted participant observation method and data collecting method followed by a pilot study and the term program conducted by the research team, which consisted of two terms and thirty-six teaching sessions in total.Data collection was both quantitative analysis and qualitative reports. The qualitative reports included child information, interviews with the caregiver. The quantitative analysis was based on anecdotal observation reports from observers and social validity feedback form.
It was cross-referenced and analyzed the data to generate the following results:
1. Through the Improvisation Music Educational Therapy sessions, the emotional stability and communication skills of the participant with severe multiple disabilities were promoted.
2. Through the Improvisation Music Educational Therapy sessions, accord with course relevance of the participant with severe multiple disabilities.
