This research probes the physical and mental health conditions of medical practitioners and attempts to find a solution for the release of stress due to emotional reactions in the workplace. It is hoped that the quality of medical treatment can be upgraded and improved relationships between medical personnel and patients can be attained. 150 structured questionnaires were distributed to medical practitioners at five mental hospitals in Taichung area. 130 questionnaires were returned which covered the period from January 10 to February 5, 2016. Effective return rate was 86.7%. Gathered statistics were analyzed via a independent t-test, one way ANOVA, and LSD post hoc using SPSS version 17.0. The results showed that two major factors, anxiety and insomnia affected the medical practitioner’s physical and mental health condition due to varying work positions.There was a significant difference of burnout dependent on the different patients served, especially between the nurses. Age was also an important factor affecting medical personnel workplace burnout as well as job engagement. It was shown that physical and mental condition and workplace burnout have a negative correlation. The conclusions were the a difference in age and workload that affects the medical practitioners mental and physical condition in the psychiatric hospital, hospital administration should set up proper reward policies to encourage medical practitioners to have better medicare performance.
