Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon is the most distinctive marathon in Taiwan. To promote the quality of the race, the organizer applied to the IAAF for recognition in 2014. The application was approved in October that year and Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon became one of the Olympic qualifications. PURPOSES: 1. To analyze the procedure of applying for hosting Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon and the provisions of participants’ eligibilities, 2. To inquire into the route planning and the assembly norms, 3. To summarize the strategies of media marketing and broadcasting. METHODS: To analyze and organize the relevant information collected through websites, journals, newspapers, race programs, field observation, etc. RESULTS: 1-1. Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon applied to IAAF for the certification, which could be issued twice in a year. Certification’s validity period was one year. 1-2. The competition was divided into “marathon”, 14 Km and 7Km, and was certified as bronze label. 1-3. The eligibility was classified into “international elite” and “regular participants”. 1-4. The competition complies with IAAF’s rewarded ordinance and doping testing specification. 2-1. The race track should include routes measured by qualified surveyors from IAAF and Association of International Marathons Distance Races. Roads were closed during the competition. There would be traffic control forbidding any cars other than official vehicles to pass. 2-2. The road closure lasts till the competition was finished. 2-3. Water and sponge stations were set up along the way. 3-1. The organizer needed to provide complete information of electric timer. 3-2. Final records should be released to medias, audience and internet. 3-3. A large screen should be set on the spot. 3-4. For media marketing, a media center were necessary. 3-5. 100 meters from the finish line placed the advertising hoarding of the IAAF and trademarks of the race. 3-6. TV broadcasting of the whole race should broadcast through international channels or live broadcasts for at least 2 hours. CONCLUSION: Applications for an IAAF Road Race Label may be focused on competition rules, athletes, media, doping, event coverage, road closures, path measurement and other hardware and software.
