Children can learn about how to interact with their environment by playing games on campus. Playing interactive games can promote the physical development of children as well as enhance their ability to self-reflect and solve problems. This study focused on Taipei and New Taipei City elementary school students’ usage of on-campus outdoor recreational playground facilities, their satisfaction in using those facilities and the relevant circumstances related to their usage of those facilities. The study was conducted by distributing 400 questionnaires to seven elementary schools located in Wenshan district of Taipei city. Upon receiving the data, the study used descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, ANOVA for analysis, discussion, and summarized the results. The statement "Have read the playground considerations" received 188 affirmative responses (57.3%). This reveals that most students are aware of the reminders for precautions that need to be taken while playing on campus. In the "Knowing campus outdoor play equipment" section, top three campus facilities that students knew were playgrounds, sports field, and slide. Early morning before class was the most popular time among upper-grade elementary school children to utilize outdoor campus facilities for activities such as, morning run, physical exercises, or ball games. After class time was the second most popular time for using on campus outdoor recreational facilities. In the survey section regarding usage of outdoor playground facilities with activity partners, "Activity partner – with friends" and "Activity partner – single person", girls scored significantly higher than boys. "Skipping", "shuttlecock" and "badminton" scored significantly higher among the favorite on campus outdoor activities for the students. Overall, children of different genders had significant difference in their satisfaction level with outdoor recreational facilities. Children’s satisfaction with outdoor recreational facilities varies with gender and male students have significantly higher satisfaction with the available facilities than female students. Results of this study found that in order to increase Taipei’s primary school students’ satisfaction with on campus outdoor recreational facilities, in addition to increasing playground space and providing additional playground equipment, the authorities will also need to focus on enhancing the cleanliness of the playground environment and improving the quality and safety management of the facilities. This study’s intent is to provide stakeholders reference information in their bid to correct the shortcomings of current playground facilities and provide students a superior campus environment for outdoor activities.
