Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 工業管理學系 === 104 === In addition to the beneficial effects of higher physical fitness on children’s physiology, psychology and cognition, a number of studies have explored the relationship between physical fitness and academic performance which also have represented the association with activating brain by exercise. The purpose of this study was to explore the correlation between physical fitness and academic performance of children in elementary school, and further research the influence of the modulation of physical fitness levels on academic performance. The data of academic performance and physical fitness of 711students to grade 5 and 6 in elementary school were collected. Based on the physical fitness standards proclaimed on the “Physical Fitness” website in 2015, the Department of Physical Education in Ministry of Education, the measurements of physical fitness included Body Mass Index, Standing long jump, Sit-up, Sit-and-reach test, and 800 M run/walk test. The academic performance including standardized mid-term and final test of Chinese, Mathematics, Social studies, and Science were measured in the study. The result showed negative correlation between 800M run/ walk test performance and the standardized scores of Chinese, Mathematics, Social studies, and Science. Meanwhile, several positive associations were observed. It showed positive relationship between Sit-and- reach test performance and the standardized scores of Chinese, Mathematics, Social studies, and Science. In addition, positive relationship between Sit-up performance and the standardized scores of Chinese, Mathematics, Social studies, and Science was observed. It indicated positive relationship between Standing long jump performance and the standardized scores of Chinese, Mathematics, Social studies, and Science as well. There are no relationships between Body Mass Index and any other subjects. Besides, the outcome also indicated no influences between the modulation of physical fitness levels and the academic performance in the experimental group. Finally, there is a suggestion to explore increasingly the differences between physical fitness and academic performance of the progressed and regressed groups to the different school stages in the future research.
