Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華科技大學 === 健康科技研究所在職專班 === 104 === Acne is the most common skin diseases that can affect people’s appearance and also cause skin pigmentation and scarring. At the moment, medications or methods for acne treatment could not effectively control the acne damages. Therefore, it is required to develop other preventive measures. This study was used lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) extracts to evaluate the effect for inhibit acne or clinic pathogens (such as Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidi, Escherichia coli). In additions, we also analyzed the tyrosinase activities for skin whitening. These studies used lemongrass (dried or fresh powders) in different extractions conditions to observe the antibacterial effects, and analysis the relationship the dopachrome suppressing between total polyphenol concentrations and tyrosinase activity. The study showed that the dried lemongrass extractions had no significant antibacterial effect. The fresh lemongrass oil at 100% concentration had the best antibacterial efficient on P. acnes. For dopachrome inhibition, the dried lemongrass alcohol extract has the best effect and the followed was fresh lemongrass oil. The concentration at 10%, the inhibition rates by alcohol extract or oil were 160.63% and 105.98%, respectively. The active components analysis, fresh lemongrass oil had antibacterial component and tyrosinase inhibition function, it maybe results from polyphenols. As for dried lemongrass alcohol extract, it showed that the polyphenols are not the main contributors for tyrosinase suppression, there were other functional compounds in these extracts. The overall evaluation was shown that fresh lemongrass oil had potential to develop for natural anti-acne and whitening cosmetics.
