碩士 === 元智大學 === 社會暨政策科學學系 === 103 === According to National Development Council, 14% of Taiwanese population will be above 65-year-old in 2018 and become “aged society” in United Nation’s definition. In 2026, the population percentage above 65-year-old will exceed 20% and this is referred by UN as “super-aged society.’ From the numbers mentioned above, we can understand that ‘aging population” is now becoming an important issue for Taiwanese society. Among all the aspects related with the central issue of aging population, recreation participation and active aging of the seniors deserve academic investigations. Therefore, this research takes Taoyuan City Shung Tak Evergreen as the focal point of case study to understand the ways in which the seniors participate in recreation activities to achieve the goal of active aging that can both improve the living quality of the elderly and reduce medial expenditure. The research concluded that recreation participations have benefits in achieving active aging, delaying physical aging and improving life quality of the elderly. Moreover, recreation participations can also improve their dignity and happiness. The researcher discusses and sums up the conclusion in accordance with this result of study in order to use as a reference Department of Social Welfare of Taoyuan City Government, Taoyuan City Shung Tak Evergreen and senior citizens, and future research, The research suggested that the Government Department of Social Welfare of Taoyuan City Government should provide better sites friendly to the organizations of various kinds of activities holding for the senior citizens to enhance the beneficial functions of these activities, and to ease or even solve problems generated from the phenomena of aging population.
