Green process innovation is regarded as one of the most critical practices for firms in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, as they use large amounts of toxic chemicals during the manufacturing process. Addressing the environmental concerns in an adequate manner helps not only to reduce the negative impact on the environment but also to increase a firm’s competitive advantage. This research aims to investigate the factors that may influence a firm’s intention to adopt green process innovation. We proposed a hierarchical decision-making model that incorporates aspects of the technology, organization, and environment (TOE) framework and integrates it with critical factors from literature. The research shows that at the top-level of the hierarchy, organization is the most influential dimension, followed by technology and environment; whereas in the detailed-level, the support of internal stakeholders, organizational structure, complexity, and organizational resources are the top four influential factors. This research makes a two-fold contribution to existing research: In theory, it contributes to the literature on hierarchical decision-making frameworks and rankings. Moreover, this study expands these concepts to green process innovation adoption in a specific industry. In practice, the findings here provide firms in the semiconductor manufacturing industry with perceivable and holistic information so that they can easily focus on the most significant determinant factors when adopting green process innovation.
