Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 視覺藝術學系碩士在職專班 === 103 === In the era of La Belle Epoque in Paris, the technology was advanced, the society was peaceful and people’s life was leisurely, and the literary and artistic creation was unrestrained. Through the pursuits of architecture, craftwork and painting, the abundant talents of literature, music, drama, and art had left wonderful imprints in the city. The aspiration for better life has already been internalized, becoming an essential part of the Parisian’s daily life. The Images of Paris series is derived from cumulative affections of my trips in Paris, retaining the wonderful travelling experience, and paying tribute to the bygone era of La Belle Epoque.
The first part of this thesis describes the creative origin of the Images of Paris series; the subject matters are selected on the basis of their symbolic implications particular to Parisian architecture and culture. The series comprises four sections in accordance with the theme and meaning. The second part explains the impacts from the Art Nouveau, impressionism and Chagall in the creation of Images of Paris, and elaborates on the aesthetic considerations of the compositions and the reasons of selecting certain elements. The third part describes the contents of each painting to provide readers a further understanding of the Images of Paris series.
The long cultural history and profound aesthetic aspects of Paris are to be admired and enjoyed from time to time. It is my sincere hope to convey to the viewer the spirits of hope, joy and peace through the pictures of the Images of Paris series, and to contribute to a better life.
