Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 音樂學系 === 103 === This thesis centers on the compositional techniques and ideas exemplified in Mémoriale, composed by Pierre Boulez (b. 1925) in 1985, as well as how these techniques and ideas are reshaped into the author’s own compositions. As an active composer and conductor, Boulez has attempted to integrate multifarious contemporary compositional techniques, and has indeed been considered a perfectionist who has regularly improved or amended his own masterpieces, while forging a distinctive musical vocabulary in the process. The 1971 solo flute piece …explosante-fixe… served as the nucleus from which stemmed Mémoriale, which is a chamber music work incorporating a solo flute and eight other instruments. Previous studies on Mémoriale have served as a foundation for understanding both the co-existence and contrast between flexibility and strictness in Boulez’s works, as well as the importance in incorporating its elements, pitches, timbre, and sonority. The influence of the above elements and vocabulary as present in Mémoriale have also served as inspiration for two of the author’s recent compositions, Unexpected Beautiful Scenery (2014), and Chasing Shadows (2014). Unexpected Beautiful Scenery utilizes a chamber music ensemble comprised of sheng with string quartet, and Chasing Shadows (2014) is a solo piece for zheng. Both of these works show the permutation of elements as demonstrated in the compositional technique of Boulez’s Mémoriale. Through the study of Mémoriale, the author integrates its compositional techniques with her own ideas, thereby aiming to create her own distinctive musical style in fostering creative innovation
