Dong Ju Island, an island of Matsu, is full of historical heritages, ancient tribes, distinctive monuments, and time-honored stories. If we take a closer look at Dong Ju, we will realize that we’re not only studying its historical sites, but also we’re breaking down its historical memories into segments. More importantly, the in-depth exploration of the history of villages helps connect the people, the time, the events, and the substances of Dong Ju. These important connections enhance the overall historical value of local history research. We study the natural environment and historical humanism aspect of Dong Ju by making painstaking investigations of Dong Ju’s geographic location, natural environment, history, and humanistic environment; as for the immigration and social development aspect, we pay close attention to the formation of tribes, change of population, development of industries, memory of history, the everyday life of the inhabitants, and even religious activities; as for the investigation of the current situation of cultural resources, we can first break it down by looking at human landscape and natural landscape, then provide an in-depth exploration of the cultural resources. Valuable historical documents from all fields are included in this thesis, and valuable information were obtained through exploring primary literatures, researching historical events, visiting the Chi Ping Long ruins built over six thousand years ago, and investigating the Dong Ju Light-house that has brought fishermen home for over two hundred years. Precious information was also gathered through in-depth studying of the alternations between the two settlements: Da Pu and Fu Zheng. Much of the “Old (Ancient) Era” history has been missing from historical records. These important pieces were re-collected from oral tradition through interviewing local inhabitants, and this element makes this thesis especially valuable. When studying the history of the villages of Dong Ju, we’re not only investigating the history of Dong Ju, but we also get to understand the memories of the inhabitants. The most difficult part of this thesis is the collecting of the fragmented historical documents, and putting these puzzles together into unbroken memories that people will never forget. Hopefully the inhabitants of Dong Ju can have a better understanding of the history of their island through this study, and pass it on forever. Chang, Hung-Yi 張弘毅 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 131 zh-TW
