Sixty-eight samplings of road dust loading were carried out during the period of April, 2013 to March, 2014. Road dusts were divided into three different particulate size, i.e. gravel(>300μm), dusts (75~300μm) and slit (<75μm). The composition of particles was analyzed by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF) . The results of road dust loading in Douliu City were 5.73g/m2 in average with 0.43 g/m2 in slit. 63.0% of the road dusts in Douliu City was gravel(>300μm), 29.6% was dusts(75~300μm), and 7.4% was slit(<75μm). In Zhuo Shui River, road dust loading was found 2.68g/m2 in average with 0.19 g/m2 in slit. 66.5% of the road dusts around Zhuo Shui River area was gravel(>300μm), 26.3% was dusts(75~300μm), and 7.2% was slit(<75μm). X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer was used to analyze the trace elements in road dusts without any chemical reaction. It is a faster analysis method and easy to store samples. The result revealed that Si was the richest element was Si element. The next followed were crustal elements Al, Fe, Ca, K, Na and Mg. Related to traffic emission, elements Zn, Cr, Cu, Pb and Ni were those substances in higher levels. These elements also found higher in Douliu City than in the area of Zhuo Shui River. Average concentration was 58% higher for Zn, 53% higher for Pb, 44% for Cu, 32% for Cr and 19% for Ni. These traffic factor elements in slit size presented medium to low correlations with amounts of vehicles within the sampling time. Elements Zn, Cr, Cu, Pb and Ni were significantly related to the amounts of total vehicle, large cargo/truck/bus, mini truck/bus, and motorcycles.
