The thesis emphasizes three parts: the city, the information and the perception. The thhesis discusses the individuality and mutual relations of the three parts and presents the concepts of the urban descriptions found in the data. The main themes of my two dialectical artworks are “Soundsacpe Road” and “Clean a "Block" ”. My artwork “Soundsacpe Road” starts from analysing the noise of traffic, and then using related data, including the variations of traffic, pedestrian flow and pedestrians crossing the street. It then reverts the data into a small system. This system was made using the graphical program, Max/MSP. A visual rendering of information from the urban street programm and the urban traffic’s one-to-one relationship of the executive program, shown at the exhibition. It makes the graphical diagram of the program look like a “real city”. My artwork “Clean a "Block" ” starts from analysing information found from the Internet. It is based on the concept that Google search engine bring the disturbance in our daily life when we use it to search information. I provided a dissenting opinion – "Do we have the right to decide how we are searched by Google? " To actualise my opinion, I cleaned up a "block" in city related to the location of the information about me searched by Google. The cleaning action is remonstrance for Google. And I re-presented all the photo and video of the cleaning action behavior into Google Maps as a web artistic form. This thesis, “Re-presentation of Data Visualization in Urban Maps”, discusses urban culture, data definition, the use of maps as a type of media, perception and social change. I created two artworks “Soundsacpe Road” and “Clean a "Block" ”, using “map idea” to represent the concepts of “locating” and “looking for the direction”. It appeals to everyone in the city and in the digital era – we are “a small pice of information in Internet”. Dr. Su-Chu Hsu 許素朱 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 67 zh-TW
