The distinction of timber is due to different composition of harmonic series. I conducted an experiment to gather data. I opened 13 groups of sound holes and recorded their notes on open strings G, D, A, E. In addition, I analyzed variation of timber from different proportions of sound holes with recording and spectrum analysis. In this way, I discovered how timber and volume of violin are influenced by different proportions of sound holes. This research based on experimental data analyses the spectrums on different sizes of sound holes. Findings are as follow: 1. The intensity of fundamental and overtone are increasing with enlarging sound holes. 2. The component of harmony decreases with enlarging sound holes. In contrary, the component of non-harmony rises at the same time. 3. The size of sound holes increased the volume is also increased if the microphone is placed 0.3m away from the sound holes. However if the microphone is placed 5m away from the sound holes, only the strings G and D have significant in volume, and strings A and E have not.
