碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 藝術史學系藝術史與藝術評論碩士班 === 103 === This dissertation aims to articulate the structural relation between visual art displays and the authorities in three major national university hospitals. Through a comprehensive survey on art displays in the public space of these hospitals, I will discuss the dialectics of ‘power’ and ‘rights’ and related issues on public space as art space within the hospitals. Following the analysis of the multiple roles played by arts in hospitals, this research therefore indicates that such phenomenon is far beyond the rigid long-established concept of public art. University hospitals are space so unique that their publicness, or rather ‘politics of hospitals’, inevitably becomes the focus of argument on the essence of diverse art displays.
