Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 創新設計研究所 === 103 === Today there are lots of problems caused by the elderly society in the world. Along with the trend of changes of elderly living patterns, elderly couples and solitary elders living alone are becoming more and more common. Due to aging population structures have been altered significantly, the lack of human assistance in the daily life becomes very common. Therefore elderly would require more help from assistive devices. Reachers, classfied as an assistive device of extending to pick up articles, are used by the infirm and the people unable to bend down. Firstly a mechanical reacher which is easy to operate, to buy conveniently, and the most representative for users has been selected. Then through the test survey of reachers, the result reveals that the test participants had difficulties in picking up heavier articles (more than 400 grams). This result was also confirmed by physical stress analysis. The excessive moment cause the user’s hand trembling and unstable in operation. The researcher proposes a solution for improvement design that a second griping handle is added on the reacher. After physical stress analysis, the result confirms the reasonableness of the proposal. The improvement reacher can reduce the moment and force when the second griping handle moves near the articles. In this study, a real model of improvement reacher is produced by 3-D printer. Through 20 participants test and subjective satisfaction interview questionnaire, the result gives a good agreement with physical stress analysis. The improvement has reformed the trembling and unstable shortages of one-hand operation.
