This study hopes to explore the methods of facing the diversified service demand from clients in the current cross-strait shipping migration and economic growth, and conduct in-depth interviews to make inferences about the influential factors of service demands in the cross-strait economy. The methodology of this study was to engage semi-structured interviews of customs brokers that had entered China and companies that had not, and conducted evidence-based researches. The competitive factors and best competitive strategies could be extrapolated from companies’ strengths and weaknesses within the environment. This study concluded that the most appropriate competitive strategy for the shipping and customs brokerage industry in Taiwan was to promote companies’ service differentiation in order to satisfy the market trend, and companies must work in compliance with government policies to start their diversified developments. For the companies that had not entered China, this study suggested that the training professionals allowed companies to accelerate their goal of service differentiations, and companies must actively participate in cross-industry vertical integrations in order to increase their business opportunities.
