Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 工業設計系創新設計碩士班(碩士在職專班) === 103 === This research observes the three different kinds of seating in Terminal 1 of Taoyuan International Airport. Through “personal space” and “territoriality” theories from environmental psychology, we want to see how seats are selected and used and how luggage is usually placed to understand the international passengers’ need in public seating. The research discovers that individual passengers prefer social centrifugal design, as they sit for longer periods with relaxed poses such as legs spread or laying back. They also show behaviors like sleeping or staring into space. Group of two passengers prefer seats that are side by side, as they often turn their body to the side with legs crossed talking to each other. Group of three or more than three passengers prefer social centripetal design, as they sit for shorter period of time, with stressed poses such as leaning forward and keeping their legs closed. They also show behaviors like chatting to one another and using their electronic devices more. These observations are applied as design conditions to propose seating designs for each type of passengers to achieve passenger distribution, to increase the usage of Taoyuan airport seating and to enhance passenger’s experience.
