Along with the development of professional sports, the leadership of sports team leader got more and more attention. There are many studies focused on the coaches’ administrative succession and their leadership in foreign countries. However, few studies discussed these topics of Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of coaches’ administrative succession and their leadership style on team performance in CPBL.
In addition to the effect of coaches’ administrative succession and their leadership style, this study also includes the impact of many offensive and defensive baseball game indicators. Hierarchical linear model analysis was employed. Under the control of the team variance, we investigated the impact of coach related behaviors on team performance, and on many offensive and defensive baseball game Indicators as well.
In this study, data was collected from the CPBL 2004-2014 seasons. Four teams and 11 seasons were included. The results show that on-base percentage and earned run averages would affect team winning percentage. The relation of transformational leadership and winning percentage is positive. Besides, transformational leadership and people-oriented leadership exert a positive interaction effect on winning percentage.
