Description
Summary:碩士 === 亞洲大學 === 數位媒體設計學系 === 103 === Because of the increasing popularity of mobile devices, paper-based books and magazines have been gradually replaced by electronic books and magazines. The advancement of the Internet technology enables readers to have access to almost unlimited knowledge sources. Digital reading is considered an inevitable trend in the future. As paper-based books are replaced by e-books, the different carriers of books enable readers to acquire a reading experience distinct from previous experiences and also considerably influence the original design of books. The most direct influence is on the binding and cover design of books; this is because the design and concepts for binding paper-based books is no longer applicable to e-books. Therefore, this study determined whether the considerations and design ideas involved in the binding design for paper-based books should still be emphasized in this era of digitalization; this study also explored how the binding and cover design for paper-based books can be converted or adjusted to maintain the meaning and spirit produced by the original design. E-book and digital publication is a technique that has not been universally learned because of its short development history. In this study, a review of literature on e-reading and e-books as well as book design was conducted and experts from relevant fields were interviewed to obtain related operational data and trends observed in practice. Subsequently, the results derived from the interview data were analyzed and summarized. Using the results, we combined the application of multimedia technology with appropriate design performance and incorporated a book design, which itself invited “exploration, interaction, consideration, and touch.” The objective was to propose the concept of digital binding for e-books to serve as a reference for planning, designing, and publishing e-books in the future.
