When people faced with stress, they have their own strategy to manage and cope it. But these strategies would be ineffective to cope with their stress and would become negative and harmful to their health. In professional perspective, there are various kinds of useful treatments. Biofeedback is one of the treatments that are often to use. In the literature review, there are different result showed that biofeedback training cannot reduce depression. This study is investigated whether biofeedback training can reduce college students and worker’s depression level by control respiratory rate, heart rate and heart rate variability. This study used pretest-posttest equivalent-group design. For Experiment 1 included 30 college students with depression problems. Participants were randomly assigned to the biofeedback group (10 members, six weeks of biofeedback training), relaxation training group (10 members, six weeks of relaxation training) or control group (10 members, no intervention). Biofeedback group receives biofeedback training for six weeks, once a week and 30 minutes every time. Participants required to do biofeedback training homework at least once a week at home. Relaxation training group receives relaxation training for six weeks, once a week and 30 minutes every time. Participants required to do relaxation training homework at least once a week at home. Control group waited for six weeks. Measurement index of experiment included pretest-posttest Beck Depression Inventory scores, respiratory rate, heart rate and heart rate variability, and then analyze statistics. Experiment 2 included 30 workers with depression problems were recruited. The laboratory procedures, tools, statistical analysis of experiment 2 are same with Experimental 1. Result showed that, college students and worker’s depression scores appear significantly differences between biofeedback group, relaxation training group and control group. Comparing with control group, biofeedback training and relaxation training can reduce depression level. In conclusion, the college students and workers can effectively reduce mental depression level by using biofeedback training. Kuo, Chun-Hsien 郭俊顯 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 49 zh-TW
