First of all, the storage of fossil fuel decreased very fast; therefor it is necessary to find out new resources to solve this problem. Secondly, the pollution caused by burning the fossil fuel would lead to incurable damage to the earth. On the contrary, renewable energies are clean and sustainable resources and are less harmful to the environment, such as wind and solar. As the development of using these resources has become mature, extracting more energy at lower cost has become more important. When the wind turbine gets larger and taller, there is more wind energy can be extracted. However, the components of wind turbines also became massive and require higher cost for installation. Furthermore, loads on the rotor also increased which means more stress on the rotor and the life span would be reduced. As a result, the aim of this project is to investigate the use of individual pitch control for alleviating wind turbine blade loads and therefore increase the cost effectiveness of wind turbine. This study covers the operation of variable wind speed with different controllers, namely pitch control, torque control and individual pitch control. The result will corporate the implementation of PID controller into the torque control and pitch control as well as the d-q transformation for individual pitch control, and the result will be simulated by using MATLAB programme.
