The common diseases of the old people include dementia, stroke, diabetes mellitus, degenerative arthritis, osteoporosis, and muscular dystrophy. These diseases result in the change of the daily activity and mobility such as unstable gait, muscular weakness of the legs, walk with slow steps, and an involuntary trembling of the leg. The purpose of this study is to develop a pressure-sensing foot pads system for measuring the pressure distribution of foots, body weight and gait analysis. The system architecture includes the hardware design, the algorithm of gait analysis, and the experimental verification. The hardware of the system consists of two pressure-sensing foot pads, a 42-channel analog circuit and a digital circuit. The algorithm consists of the processing and analysis of pressure sensing signals, and features analysis of the gait. The features include the temporal features, e.g. step time, single support time, double support time and swing time, and spatial features, e.g. body weight and the center of a single leg. We simulate six types of gait such as normal steps, hesitated steps, small steps, body sway, and two types of hemiplegic gait. Studies show abnormal gait pressure distribution, center of gravity distribution, stride time, swing leg support time and time is different from the normal gait, small steps step time, single support time, swing time is be shorter, hesitated steps, double support time is be longer, body sway step time, single support time, swing time is be longer, two types of hemiplegic gait, hemiplegic foot pressure value larger and single support time is be longer, Five subjects were found hemiplegic left radian range is -2.86 to -3.12,and hemiplegic right radian range is 1.33 to -0.609. Observe the status of the walking process of the system is possible, the gait parameters can be measured to body weight, center of a single leg, step time, single support time, double support time and swing time, but cannot measure to the walking speed, acceleration and distance. Future work includes improved hardware design and gait analysis algorithm. Chun-Ju Hou 侯春茹 104 學位論文 ; thesis zh-TW
