Summary: | 碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 應用設計研究所 === 103 === In order to become a more advanced country, the people of Taiwan have begun to attach more importance to Taiwan’s original culture, ranging from promoting an understanding of the culture to incorporating the culture into modern creative design. Also, the number of researchers of Taiwanese aboriginal culture has increased, giving the greater population an exposure the the wisdom and habits of the Taiwanese aboriginal people and helping people understand the mysteries and charms of these people. This also helps preserve the culture of under appreciated groups such as the Taiwanese aboriginal tribes. This aim of this paper is to take the patterns, material, colors and other cultural elements from the Bunan Tribe and apply them to the design of a modern backpack. Data was collected from literature reviews and in-depth interviews and then organised, analysed and then a comparison made within the data. From this, the main elements of the Bunan Tribes culture and design were identified, helping the public understand more of the Bunan Tribes traditional culture. The purpose of this study are as follows:1.Perform an analysis of the elements identified in Bunan Tribal culture, both tangible and intangible. 2.Use the elements identified in the design of a modern backpack to allow people to feel the cultural charm of the Bunan Tribe. This paper collected data using qualitative research, literature review and in-depth interviews, followed by analysis using the grounded theory method. After completion of the analysis, conclusions were drawn as follows: Research into the Bunan Tribes cultural elements found that the main colors used in the tribes designs are red, yellow, green, blue, black and white, shown with high color saturations, the main shapes are short and squat, the main materials used in daily life include rattan, bamboo, animal hides, cotton and hemp, the main cultural activities including stories involving their totem animal the sharp-nosed viper, preliterate calendar paintings, traditional vocal music and traditional weaving techniques. Research into the Bunan Tribe cultural myths and legends found that their history was preserved in an oral form and included animals such as the sharp-nosed viper, the Formasan muntjac (barking deer), owls, toads, wild boars, the black bulbul. Each animal held a special signifance to the Bunan Tribe: the Black Bulbul was considered to be their holy bird, the toad was gods pet, the owl was the guardian god of infants and the sound of the muntjac takes the elderly who have passed away. Finally the sharp-nosed viper is considered to be a friend of the Bunan Tribe. Research into the application of the Bunan Tribes culture to the design of a modern backpack found that Bunan women commonly used baskets more short and squat than baskets used by women of other tribes with their baskets having a flat bottom, smaller than the opening and no feet to rest on, Bunan men used baskets which, for convenience, were much less wide and more square than those used by the women and were considered to be more “cute”. Mens baskets were generally decorated with painted calendars and the tribes totem animal.
