It is an important place for physical and mental development of individuals, and people develop close relationship within their families. However, industrialization brought a number of social changes, and family structures and functions also generated huge differences. Modern marital relationships are more fragile than traditional ones. Divorce rate rising, to some extent, contribute to the increasing of single-parent families. Especially, when divorces involve young children, they often suffer a lot from the divorces. Therefore, the study uses the perspective of life course theory to explore the growth and military service experiences of those militaries from single-parent families. In-depth interviews and narrative analysis are employed to collect data. This study has three main purposes. First, it tries to understand the impacts on children after their parents' divorces. Second, it attempts to understand their life experiences and motives of serving in army. Third, it explores how military career affect their personal growth. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the divorces of parents have more or less impacts on children. Second, the family economic status pushes people from single-parent families to serve in the army. Third, being militaries is the turn-point of life for those who from single-parent families. Finally, the researcher proposes two recommends for the military and future researches. First, the army could invite experts to give militaries some courses about emotional management on a regular basis, and set up the Military Family Service Center. Second, attachment relations and psycho-dynamic studies would be a very important focus for studying militaries who from single-parent families in the future.
