Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 經濟學系 === 103 === Taiwanese Banks, financial institutions with relatively small scope of assets compared to Chinese state-owned commercial banks and joint-stock commercial banks, currently apply equity participation of Chinese city bank as an appropriate strategy to enter into the Chinese financial markets, and the target is now an important issue for them to consider. This study adopts DEA model to analyze the efficiency of 34 Chinese city banks from 2007 to 2012, and subsequently applying regression model to find out how the factors, including regional characteristic variables, risk variables, and asset size affect the efficiency of Chinese city banks and Malmquist Productivity Index to analyze the total factor productivity of banks. The results reveal that: (1) Technical efficiency of Chinese city banks showed a downward trend from 2007 to 2012. Banks in municipalities or banks with large asset size are more efficiency than others; banks in western and northeast region, on the other hand, are inefficiency. (2) The efficiency of city banks is significantly affected by the regional GDP and GDP growth rate in local variables and loan-to-deposit ratio and loan loss provision to gross loan ratio in risk variables of banks. (3) Total factor productivity was decreased from 2007 to 2010, then increased in 2011and 2012. Banks in municipalities or with large asset size have higher productivity growth rate than others.
