Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 103 === George Crumb (1929- ) occupies a place among the American contemporary composers, and he has successfully come on the international musical stage. In 1979, he completed a piano work "A Little Suite of Christmas". Even though the timbre expression in it is less mindful with his other works of the same period of the 70's. But the sounds of the entire work is unfolding its uniqueness, as well as his personal artistic charm.
The process of exploring the work in this thesis is to first make an initial understanding of Crumb's life and his creative career in each period, and then study further the related music basic elements from "A Little Suite of Christmas", such as timbre, pitch and rhythm. From this study, it is hoped to understand how the composer has created an artistic value belonging to him with the times, in the era of subverted traditional sounds.
