Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 政治學系 === 102 === This study examines the theoretical validity of Fair Trade Movement and evaluates its efficacy as an alternative to the conventional trade model in the context of Neoliberal economic globalization. Due to capital monopoly and trade norms defined by international trade regimes, the conventional trade model under Neoliberal economic globalization results in the exploitation of developing countries. As an “alternative globalization,” is Fair Trade Movement a viable option in this framework? Can it solve the ills of economic globalization as it proclaims? This study reexamines Neoliberal economic globalization and its discontents, and evaluates the efficacy of Fair Trade Movement and analyzes its challenges by tracing its rise and modus operandi. This study concludes that despite its theoretical inadequacies and operational deficiencies, Fair Trade Movement has accomplished its major mission, namely raising public awareness of the intrinsic structural problems in the current global trading system and the consequent injustice. Fair Trade Movement has effectively encouraged consumers to pay more respect to producers, and producers to consider an alternative to the conventional trade model within the construct of globalization.
