Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會工作學系 === 103 === In the year of 2013, I was employed by a faith-based non-profit organization to be the director of an adolescent placement institution, which is the beginning of this action research. This study begins with the relationship building between me as a director and my subordinates at the time I joined the work team in the placement institution. Specifically, when incidents happened, I often faced the dilemma of whether the decision-making should be people-oriented or task-oriented. Therefore, the incidents during that period of time facilitated my team management. In my reflection, I clarified my values and beliefs, which formed the basis of my decision-making. As the team management went smoothly, I gradually observed problems involved in the working environment and the environment my colleagues truly needed. Moreover, I noticed the structural constraints the entire organization has been trapped in, particularly the constraints imposed by the government policy. I encountered the difficulty of making a balance between the survival of the organization and the realization of the organizational missions, which stimulated me to make a proposal in the board of directors. Such action is distinct from my previous experience. As a catholic, I am used to obey priests and nuns. In addition, my previous experience as a director is insufficient to cope with the current needs in the organization. Therefore, in this faith-based organization, although I was at the position of director, I was afraid to truly be the leader of the placement institution. Initially, I was perplexed whether I should act as a church member or as a director. After I noticed such perplexity, I still struggled with my values and religious behavior, and I had to soften the sense of guilty of being impolite to or having no respect for the nuns. However, after such struggle, I have developed a free mind to face organizational management. This study adopted the method of action research, including reflection-in-action and reflection-on-action, to clarify the context of actions and to develop action strategies that can be put into practice. Through this research, I had the opportunity to reflect my action strategies and values and to disclose my knowledge.
