We prepared a series of 3-benzothiazolylcoumarins by condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-cyanomethylbenzothiazole via a base- catalytic cyclization for study the substituent effects on the spectroscopic analysis. All of the new compounds have been confirmed by MS and NMR analysis. The UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopic analysis reveal that the substituents at C-7 and C-6’ of 3-benzothiazolylcoumarins has the greatest influence. The presence of a methoxy group and a nitro group substituents at the titled compound demonstrated a bathochromic shift of 154 nm when they located at C-7 and C-6’, respectively.
