The causes of obesity are complex and among which environmental obesogenic factors are gradually valued. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation among , school environment and dietary and physical fitness knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and to further understand its impact on obesity. In this study, Taichung City was divided into four areas according to the Administrative Region and the stratified random sampling was used. The fifth and sixth graders in 18 municipal elementary schools are targeted. A total of 588 students participated in this study and finished the questionnaire from early December, 2013 to mid-January, 2014 . With the telephone interviews, schools were divided into three levels (Low, Medium, High in order) to understand the difference among knowledge, attitudes, behavior and weight status among three levels.
The results showed that the percentage of underweight among students was 51(8.7%), normal weight was 369(62.8%), overweight was 88(15.0%), obesity was 80(13.6%). The students’ dietary, physical fitness knowledge, attitudes and behavior had no significant differences in the four groups of underweight, normal, overweight and obese students. Weight status of students had no significant differences among from different school environment level (Low, Medium, High).
The higher level of school environment was, the better their dietary attitude (p = 0.010), dietary behavior (p = 0.001), and physical fitness attitude (p = 0.014) were. Evaluated with ANGELO mode in the diet, the higher level of school environment was, the better the policy attitude (p = 0.035), the policy behavior (p = 0.002) were. In terms of physical fitness, the higher level of school environment was, the better attitude of physical(p = 0.005) were .
In summary, the better diet and physical activity school environment, the better children's attitudes and behavior. Therefore, in the future, continuing to improve the school environment to improve children's attitudes and behavior.
