Summary: | 博士 === 中國文化大學 === 史學系 === 103 === In 1895, Taiwan became Japanese colony. Buddhism was introduced into Taiwan from those Japanese armed monks. Eight Sects and Fourteen Schools in Buddhism were also brought into Taiwan continually. The Myoshin-jiSchool of the Rinzai sect came into Taiwan later than other sects. In 1897 headquarters order Osaki-bunnkei started to preach in Penghu. Furthermore, Umeyama-gennsyuu came into Taipei with Governor-General Gentaro Kodama’s help in 1899. The Temple of Rinzai sect was finished in 1911.The Rinzai sect started to deliver its sermon.
The second chief, Hasetani-jienn founded the Sinnnanngakurinn Buddhist school in 1917. However, it was forced to be closed due to some financial problems. In 1932, the eighth chief, Takabayasi-genpo, set the Sennsyuudoujyo in 1934 and dedicated to Taiwanese monks’ fostering. Besides, social education, Japanese education and Buddhist speech were developed in Myoshin-ji School. In 1937,the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out. Therefore, the Myoshin-ji School started to set Sunday-schools and kindergartens in at temples. Three years later, Buddhism seminar for nuns began.
In 1924, in order to help the poor people and away with undesirable customs of the treat an illness by religion, Toukai-gisyou worked hard to built the Buddhism Ji-ai Hospital in Kaohsiung, also established the supporters' group. The Rinzai sect completed missionary work through education and medical institution, promoted the Taiwanese monks' quality and started the Buddhism medical treatment.
