With a “Do it first, better it later” philosophy and the help of resource bricolage, corporate runners are likely to lower the cost and diminish the risks, making it a suitable operation model for NGOs and startups. In “The Little Scientists” project in Taitung, both resources and vol- unteers need to be organized, maintained and revitalized, before they can be maxim- ized. Values can only influence beyond individuals when passed down in the form of culture, rather than knowledge and experience. This explains why “The Little Scien- tists” spread out in 6 remote villages within 5 years. It exemplifies the intrinsic pow- er of culture. The main informant, Chen Li, is a teacher of 30-year experience, but not until his daughter asked “what on earth is education?” did he realize that sending students to top schools is not what his heart craves. He discovered, in “Little Scientists”, that love is the quintessence of education and the cause of Flip.Education. Chen is so- phisticated and warm. His insightfulness is most evident in dealing with the most complicated issues. For example, he insisted that parents accompany their children in class at the inception, transforming the parents from “supervisors” into “partici- pants”. He rid of the charity-like formalities and built up a team that is constantly learning, which later was proven to be one of the keys that keeps other flip-education platforms from emulating. “The Little Scientists” will face different challenges in the future but it is believed that they will find the path. With the diverse bricolage resources pouring in, and the young scientists growing up with the nutrition of love, they will become benchmarks of the society, and they will envision the value of love. Values can only influence beyond individuals when passed down in the form of culture, rather than knowledge and experience. This explains why “The Little Scien- tists” spread out in 6 remote villages within 5 years. It exemplifies the intrinsic pow- er of culture.
The main informant, Chen Li, is a teacher of 30-year experience, but not until his
daughter asked “what on earth is education?” did he realize that sending students to top schools is not what his heart craves.
