Furthermore, by introducing vanadium and combining silicon nitride ceramic powders with BPF resin, we have prepared the novel polymer/ceramic composites with high thermal resistance and mechanical strength. In the preparation process, ammonium vanadate was added in the synthesis process of BPF to form the vanadium modified bisphenol-F resins (V-BPF) with new O-V-O chemical bonds which were confirmed by the FTIR and XPS spectra. The glass transition temperature, thermal resistance, flexural strength and hardness of V-BPF resins are respectively higher than those of BPF resins. This is due to the presence of new cross-link O-V-O bonds in the V-BPF resins. In addition, the 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified silicon nitride powders (m-SiN) were fully mixed with V-BPF to form the vanadium modified Bisphenol-F resins/silicon nitride ceramics composites (V-BPF-SiN). The thermal resistance and mechanical properties of the V-BPF-SiN composites are further promoted by the well-dispersed and well-adhered m-SiN in these novel polymer/ceramics composites. Furthermore, in order to identify the properties of V-BPF resins and V-BPF-SiN composites, we also used those as an excellent binder for Diamond (Dia) and cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding tools through the basic grinding experiments. The results of grinding experiments indicated that the Dia grinding tools bound by the V-BPF resins have better grinding surface and removal amount than those bound by the BPF resins for grinding alumina ceramics. Thus the V-BPF resins are better binding media than the BPF resins. On the other hand, the CBN grinding tools bound by the V-BPF-SiN composites have more excellent grinding effect than those bound by the BPF resins for grinding SKD 11 alloy steels. Therefore, in the grinding experiments, Diamond and CBN grinding tools (Dia tool-B and CBN tool-B) indicated that they have such excellent grinding performance with thermal and mechanical properties.
