The mainstream software in the market even provides a module for mold design. As long as the user follows the established operating processes, he or she can design a complete set of molds. In this thesis, we refer to the mold design architecture of existing package software and develop a design guiding system for standard components of a plastic injection mold with lightweight features. This system includes two major modules: a standard mold components database and a standard mold components design. In terms of the standard mold components database, we adopted a three-tier architecture to develop the web-based database website in the ASP.NET development platform, and in coordination with Microsoft's IIS server, a web server set up on the host side. The site data is stored in an SQL database to facilitate the follow-up module call function. For the standard mold components design, we used the application programming interface NXOpen provided in Siemens’s 3D CAD/CAM software NX to develop the function of automated assembly and automated design change for three types of standard parts related to the mold cavity: slider releasing mechanism, ejector pin and sprue bushing. By assembling these standard parts, the system can calculate the lengths of parts based on the assembly position and generate the required cavity for placing these parts on the mold base automatically to prevent the standard parts from interfering with the mold plates. On the other hand, all parts of the slider release mechanism were obtained by a user downloading them from an internet database. As the client does not need to pre-store the massive files for the parts, it saves storage space on the hard disk and reduces operation time. The subsequent information updates are also convenient.
