Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 圖文傳播藝術學系 === 103 === Since e-books have gained worldwide attention these years, Taiwanese government since 2009 focuses on promoting the policies of digital publishing development. EPUB has been one of the main focuses of e-books formats, and also being used as a global standard form for the global industry. Due to the publishing companies in Taiwan are mostly in small or medium scale, they have been facing the problem of lacking funds, human resources and technology, furthermore, the market of e-publishing haven’t been mature, that causes slowly development in this area. However, this situation is expected to be improved after Google Play Books enters the market with the international sales force. Therefore, this research takes publishers in Taiwan as the research object to explore the development strategy of e-books to provide a reference that helps industry restructure in the future.
In this research, a literature review was conducted to collect the factors of epub development and set up with 5 main factors and 22 sub-factors. Through the Analytic Hierarchy Process questionnaires and in-depth interview, obtained each factor priority and found out the current situation of the industry.
The research reveals the main factor of epub development is “market demand”. The interviewees express that the three impedes are “immature market scale”, “lack of standard software in making e-books” and “epub3 is not well adapted in platform and reader”. They also consider that Google help the sales of e-book, but it is not well influence the market. Thus, publishers were required to train their editors with encoding structured skill and establish a flow Process in publishing. And platforms should accelerate format update to be in line with international standards. Both of them should cooperate with each other cohesively to raise the both quality and quantity to provide a more attractive environment of digital reading.
