Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 廣播電視學系 === 103 === The present study used conversation analysis to know the representation of relationship among mother-in-law and daughter-in-law on Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese and South Korean TV dramas in 2008 and 2009. The study found that filial piety and ways to be a daughter-in-law are still momentous in oriental society, and these TV dramas of the 4 countries presented the relationship among mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in Chinese ethical traditional and patriarchal ways. The relationship among mother-in-law and daughter-in-law on Chinese TV drama contrarily got less influenced by Chinese traditional norms.
Except on Chinese TV drama, mother-in-law may affect her son’s marriage because of thinking highly of him. There are also dialogues of traditional customs, traditional norms, break-in and different values among mother-in-law and daughter-in-law on all the TV dramas of the countries. It may showed that the dilemma daughter-in-law faced are mostly from traditional mother-in-law.
However, the dialogues of job autonomy, break-in, and different values among mother-in-law and daughter-in-law on TV dramas are also showed that these 4 countries are in the influences of modernization and trends of thought of Westerns. The images of daughter-in-law seems to be changed gradually from following the traditional norms to seeking autonomy on TV dramas. Besides, the images of mother-in-law also seems to be changed gradually from being bossy to compromising with, or even apologize to daughter-in-law.
