碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 進修部暑期體育碩士班 === 103 === This research tries to find that how politics and policies influence the development of Taiwan`s modern pentathlon. Conducted by the methods of data analysis and semi-structured interview, the research intends to reconstruct the macro history of Taiwan`s modern pentathlon and as well to provide some suggestions for the prospect of the game. The findings of this study are as the following. First, the political influence on the development of Taiwan`s modern pentathlon can be divided into four stages: 1973-1976, 1977-1984, 1985-1996, 1997-2014. Still, the political power remains critical and decisive to the game in the following decades as it does during the past years. Second, (a) to increase the chance of winning in the international competitions, recruiting female athletes and athletes coming from swimming arena, hiring experienced foreign coaches, and giving the athletes off-site training are suggested. (b) To promote the popularity of the game, managing to hold an international competition, amending some game rules to attract the interests of the public and TV broadcasting are recommended. Third, (a) to ease the decreasing core members of the game, both coaches and athletes, asking the Association to propose well-organized plans to solve the student-athletes
