Abstract
This study is based on Cunningham, Stanovich and Wilson’s (1990) "totality spoken language understanding" perspective, to develop a suitable for preschoolers listening comprehension test. Levels of understanding include the vocabulary needed to understand,the text and inferences. Questions were confirmed by the vocabulary and with rigorous steps for pretest questions to view the contents and carried out reliability and validity of the test. The test has four essays and 13 questions. The study samples were from five public kindergartens in Taipei. A total of 246 children, ranging in age from 56-79 months (mean age of 69 months), were studied for this paper. The results of this study show that the question difficulty level of “Listening Comprehension Test for Young Children” ranged from .38 to .79, and discrimination between .48 to .63, showing that the degree of difficulty and discrimination levels were good. In terms of reliability, internal consistency coefficient α was .73. can effectively measure the short hearing preschool children's level of understanding. Finally, discussions and recommendations are based on findings.
