Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 心理與諮商學系碩士班 === 103 === This research aims to construct Visual Aesthetic Literacy Scale for junior high
school students. The construct is based on four expressive forms of visual arts: color,
proportion, constitute, and texture. We randomly sampled with clusters a total of 1297
subjects from junior high schools in Taiwan and adopted exploratory factor analysis,
confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson’s product-moment correlation,
independent-sample t test, and ANOVA to analyze data. Evidence of validation includes
content, response process, structure, criterion-related, and different group comparison.
The findings of this research are as follows:
1. Structural evidence: items of the scale formed a single latent factor that was
confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis.
2. Criterion-related evidence: (1) Positive correlation (.336) between the scores from
“Visual Aesthetic Literacy Scale” and scores from “visual arts semester grade”; 2)
positive correlations between scores from “Visual Aesthetic Literacy Scale” and
scores from various aesthetic related activities and experiences through “Aesthetic
Experiences and Cultural Activities Survey of Middle School Students”
(from .127 to .192).
3. Different group comparison evidence: students who major in visual arts scored
higher than students from regular class with effect size of 0.914.
4. Girls scored higher than boys on Visual Aesthetic Literacy Scale with effect size of
0.435.
The validation of Visual Aesthetic Literacy Scale has been supported. Further
implications and limitations in research were discussed.
